Colorless odorless rhombic acicular crystal or crystal block, salty and bitter, easy delixing. Highly soluble in water, aqueous solution is neutral. Soluble in acid, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in methanol, liquid ammonia, insoluble in ether, chloroform. Can form double salt with alkali metal halide. It turns yellow when left in the air. Strong heat in the air converts to bromine and lime.
